Nixey’s Merry Christmas Single

Sarah Nixey returns with a one off single Nixey’s Merry Christmas, after the release of her critically acclaimed album Brave Tin Soldiers earlier this year. Nixey’s voice glides above the harpsichord and celeste on this festive, but always knowing, Christmas song about a “dirty town covered up with dazzling snow”. From the rooftops, overlooking the city winter wonderland, it seems the “rot, grime and crooked streets” have vanished beneath the bright glare of December’s star. In reality, they are still there but for a short period of time we partake in the false knowledge that all is well. Nixey sings, “you could save your cash for what the future may not bring/but the children want a laptop and a diamond ring”, hinting at the looming recession and the fact that Christmas consumerism starts young. However, she does advise raising “a glass to absent friends and family” at what can be a sentimental and reflective time of year. Mostly, The Ice Queen wishes you a very Merry Christmas. Bottoms up.
